Length: Art Portfolio, 500 word journal, 1500 word Critical Reflection
Purpose:
This assignment aims to provide students with a personal experience of creative expression and narrative as tools to increase self-awareness and foster positive change. This experience should inform students of the potential to use creative expression alongside narrative therapy with clients to support brain integration and self-regulation of the autonomic nervous system.
Process:
Over the first 5 weeks of this unit, students will be introduced to a selection of art and narrative activities. Choose 1 of the activities each week to produce an image for your art portfolio.
In your Learning Journal in the class space, upload a photograph of your image and write a 100-word reflection on any meaningful insights gained from this activity. By the end of week 5, you should have 5 entries in your Learning Journal.
On completion of your 5 entries, relying on your journal to inform you, write a 1500-word critical reflection on your experience of using art as a means to express your thoughts and feelings. Your reflection should include suitable references to support your growing awareness of the creative process, how it can be used in counselling, including as a means to activate brain integration and state regulation.
